How long does it take to become a lifeguard?

The lifeguard course comprises 1 month of practical training and 1 month of theory, with contact sessions typically on Sunday mornings. This excludes exam preparation and the exam.

How much does it cost to become a lifeguard?

The lifeguard course is administered by Lifesaving South Africa and costs R300, including training manual, exam fee and certification.
Yearly membership at False Bay Surf Lifesaving Club is R400.

Optional club kit is also available for purchase.

Note: The lifeguard course is free if you join False Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.
